The German Academic Exchange Service-supported DAAD scholarships aim to cover tuition fees, housing costs, and basic utilities such as health insurance and travel expenses. The private, nationally sponsored, and state-supported scholarship regulates about 365 German higher education schools and has a 522 million Euro yearly budget. Furthermore, this scholarship covers a whopping 100,000+ international and native students each year. When it comes to entering the country, a master’s degree from a German university has an impeccable reputation and is highly valued abroad.

The country is home to some of the top engineering institutes, and industry pioneers like as Audi and Wolksvagen dominate the automobile sector. As a result, Germany is recognised as one of the best locations in the world for international students.

Despite the country’s provision of “Low or No Tuition Fee” on most of its programmes for all – EU, non-EU, and German students – aspirants find it difficult to finance even the remainder of the sum. This is mainly owing to high currency conversion rates between nations, but it could also be related to one’s own financial situation. As a result, in such circumstances, external assistance to alleviate the financial load becomes critical.

Internships are also financed under the DAAD scholarships for all graduate, doctoral, and post-graduate students. Scholarships are often awarded in the form of monthly deposits of EUR 861 for graduates and EUR 1,200 for Ph.D./doctoral students. Furthermore, the scholarship covers health, accident, and personal liability insurance. As a result, the student’s expenses in the event of sickness, injury, or accidental death will be reimbursed by DAAD. Such relaxations are implemented by the country to ensure that pupils of the highest calibre be admitted to their elite schools.

However, receiving this scholarship is not easy, and aside from one’s current financial situation, one’s technical competence is also tested. Furthermore, in order to maximise your chances of receiving this scholarship, you must have a really solid application to back up your profile. As a result, you must support your application with well-written LORs, resumes, and essays that highlight your vast professional experience, extracurricular activities, or other relevant endeavours. As a result, the fellowship is not for everyone, and applicants should work on improving their profile and filling skill gaps with relevant practical experience.

Overall, the German government has been the most supportive of enabling overseas students to enrol and funding their studies and stay. The DAAD scholarship programme has sponsored the education and stay of over 2 million students both nationally and internationally. As a result, one should not pass up this possibility. However, it is critical to remember the application deadlines because they are limited in contrast to the number of applicants who apply each year.

Steps to Apply for the scholarship

The current response is intended for students looking for internships during their undergrad summers. To begin, the DAAD grants scholarships under the WISE programme to Indian students from a chosen group of colleges to pursue internships at a German university. The application method is detailed on the website: http://www.daaddelhi.org/en/14498/index.html.

The first thing to arrange is a German host, i.e. a German professor willing to lead you through your internship. Once you’ve completed one (by mailing), the remainder of the application process is rather simple as long as you have a good CGPA (at least 9.2 in my experience).

Suggestions for finding professors:

1.First, the DAAD maintains an outstanding directory of all German research labs on its website (https://www.daad.de/en/).

Searching for keywords within your research area of interest (e.g., Wireless Networks, Signal Processing, etc.) will provide a list of labs within that area, from which you can then browse the page for a specific professor’s contact information.Personally, I found this approach laborious because it is difficult to obtain the exact professor’s email address.(2) would be the other (and more efficient) option.

2.’Google Advance Search’…. I have found this to be a very useful tool in locating the contact information for any professor in any nation (not just Germany). To begin, go to: http://www.google.com/advanced_search
Set the country option to Germany here (only results from German pages will be generated).Once this is completed, Google provides a highly sophisticated approach to search for and identify pages that have the exact keywords that we require. One such method would be to type in words like ‘Professor wireless networks’ in the ‘all these words’ section and then simply put ‘@’ in the ‘this exact word’ section…this would only generate pages that contained the professor’s exact email id…this was just one way to generate useful results and you can easily play around with it.

3. The third option is to use the research database http://www.researchgate.net/. This website includes a database of all researchers in a specific field. The majority of German professors have a profile on this website. To use this service, you must have your own institute email address (a simple gmail address would not suffice). The other disadvantage is that you will not be able to obtain the professor’s precise email address, but only his name and papers, so you will have to google the contact again.

About the content of your email

1.There is no general rule for what to write in your emails, but try to make it a personalized communication rather than randomly mailing it to numerous professors. Read the professor’s profile carefully (most German professors and labs say whether they are interested in recruiting interns…. so desist from mailing if they specifically state that they are not interested this summer).
2.DO NOT MAIL TO TWO SAME DEPARTMENT PROFESSORS AT THE SAME TIME.
3.In Germany, the semester begins in October. Most professors will be on holiday from August to mid-September, therefore the ideal time to begin mailing would be in mid-September.
4.Finally, be patient…there is no quick fix.
